The 8th grade English students are working on their speaking and listening skills by performing demonstrative ‘how to’ speeches with step by step instructions with transitions, a hook, factual research, finished products and visual aids to cap off their last middle school unit.

Some speech topics include:
Breaking down an AC unit for scrape, cleaning and caring for a pet hamster, caring for naturally curly hair, preparing a hockey stick for competition, baiting a fish hook with tips and tricks for local anglers.

"Our National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) students have been busy bees this week, and for a very special reason: Staff Appreciation Week! 🍎✨

To show our gratitude for the incredible educators and support staff who make Shumate Middle School such a wonderful place to learn, NJHS officially "Stuffed the Staff Lounge!" From delicious treats and snacks to some much-needed drinks, we wanted to make sure our staff felt the love all week long.

But we didn’t stop at snacks! NJHS also presented Special Recognition Awards to our amazing staff members. It was an honor to celebrate the individuals who go above and beyond for our students every single day. 🏆

To the Shumate Staff: Thank you for your patience, your passion, and your dedication. You don't just teach; you inspire!

Check out some photos from the week below! 👇"

M-Step Success Tips
We are excited to support our students as they showcase their learning during Spring Testing! Here is how you can help your child feel ready and relaxed for their upcoming M-Step assessments:
The Power of Rest: Encourage your student to get a great night's sleep so they wake up feeling refreshed and ready to do their best.
Fuel for the Day: A healthy breakfast is a great way to start the morning! We will also have convenient "grab and go" breakfast options available at school for every student.
Tech Readiness: Help your student remember to fully charge their Chromebook the night before. Bringing both the Chromebook and the charger to school ensures they are powered up for the digital test.
Focus & Flow: To keep the testing software running smoothly, please remind your student to keep their Chromebook open until they finish.
A Smooth Morning: Arriving on time helps students start their day calmly.
Distraction-Free Zone: To help everyone stay focused, students will keep their phones powered off in their lockers. No wireless AirPods/Beats may be used. This creates the perfect quiet environment for them to concentrate on their success!
