Dear Shumate Parents, Students, and Community,

On behalf of the entire Shumate staff, welcome to the 2024-2025 school year! We are excited to partner with you to support your child’s academic, social, and emotional growth. Our commitment is to provide a challenging, engaging, and meaningful educational experience that prepares students for future success.

I am thrilled to begin my eighth year as Shumate’s principal and my eleventh year serving as a principal within the Gibraltar School District. Before joining Gibraltar, I spent fifteen years teaching fifth through eighth grade in Livonia Public Schools.

I feel incredibly fortunate to have had parents, teachers, coaches, and administrators who instilled in me a lifelong love of learning. It is my mission to foster that same passion for learning among our students.

On a personal note, I am a proud father of a daughter who is currently a sophomore at Michigan State University and a son in eighth grade. They continually remind me of the opportunities I want for all students, guiding my decisions as an educator.

As principal, my door is always open, and I welcome your input. I firmly believe that a high-quality education is best achieved through strong partnerships. My hope for this year is that we work together to provide Shumate students with the best possible learning experiences, equipping them to become engaged, informed citizens ready to take on the challenges of the 21st century.

I am excited to continue my journey as Shumate’s assistant principal.  I feel fortunate that I know many of the students at Shumate because of my time at Weiss Elementary school and at Chapman Elementary School.

On a personal note, I have an amazing wife and together we have two wonderful children, Owen and Nathan.  My children guide my decision making on what is best for students.

As the assistant principal, my door is always open and I welcome your input. I believe that a high quality education can only be fully realized through a genuine partnership between the home and school.  Together we will make this a wonderful year for the students and the entire learning community of Shumate!
