🌱 Our 2nd graders are getting their hands dirty—in the best way!
Students in Mrs. Sperbeck and Mrs. Hickey’s classes kicked off their new science unit by planting grass seeds. They’re excited to watch their plants grow and learn all about what living things need to thrive.

📚✨ Library Fun at Chapman Elementary! ✨📚
During each class’s library time, our students took on a fun and engaging challenge—playing a genre matching game!
Students explored different types of books while working to match titles with their correct genres. From mystery and fantasy to nonfiction and biography, everyone had a chance to think critically, collaborate with classmates, and discover new reading interests along the way.
It was wonderful to see so much excitement for reading and learning in the library!

Students created their own compass roses to better understand how directions are organized. Through this activity, they learned to identify both cardinal directions (north, south, east, west) and intermediate directions (northeast, northwest, southeast, southwest) in a hands-on and engaging way.

Chapman third graders had a blast during their team-building morning meeting activity—Wizards, Giants, Elves!
Students worked together, practiced communication, and showed great sportsmanship while playing this fun and engaging game. There was lots of laughter, teamwork, and positive energy to start the day off right!
We love seeing our Chargers building strong connections and supporting one another.

Congratulations to our Chapman Charger Students of the Month for March! 🎉
This month’s character trait was problem solving, and these outstanding students truly rose to the challenge. Each of them demonstrated the ability to think critically, stay determined, and find creative solutions in and out of the classroom. They are a great example of what it means to persevere and tackle obstacles with confidence.
We are so proud of your hard work and positive attitude—keep shining, Chargers! 💙⚡

As part of our Green School initiative, Chapman Elementary partnered with the Detroit Zoo to conduct a waste audit. As one of our first steps toward building a more environmentally conscious school community, we have introduced a food share cart. Students can place unopened, packaged food items they do not wish to keep on the cart, allowing other students the opportunity to take and enjoy them instead.

The Chapman Chargers Mini Martian Marathon Team completed their marathon experience by running 1.2 miles this Saturday. These runners have been running two days a week in the mornings since January. 53 athletes competed in the race which included uphill and downhill running, a trail and a race to the finish line. Mrs. Kozicki is so very proud of all the runners and is very appreciative of the siblings (and former Run Club members) who ran with us, the family members that cheered us on and also some that ran with us, and Mrs. Johnson, Mrs. Ford, and Mrs. Monticello who supported all of our runners. Chapman has been participating in this amazing opportunity since 2013! Way to go Chargers!!

Thank you to Councilwoman Marcie from Rockwood City Council for reading to first grade during March is Reading month!

Our 4th graders are kicking off their unit on spatial geography! 🌍 Today, we got hands-on by creating models to show how the Earth is divided into hemispheres. It was a fun and interactive way to explore how our world is organized—great work, everyone!

April is World Autism Acceptance Month 💙 At Chapman, we’re proud to support #WorldAutismAcceptanceMonth because we believe every student deserves to be seen, valued, and supported for who they are. Autism acceptance goes beyond awareness - it’s about creating an inclusive environment where differences are understood, respected, and celebrated every day.
