📚💙 Growing Minds of All Kinds at Chapman Elementary 💙📚 In the library this month, Ms. Kayla created a special “Growing Mind of All Kinds” display in honor of Autism Awareness Month, with contributions from every class! 🌱✨ Students had meaningful conversations about what autism is, why Autism Awareness Month matters, and how we can all be more inclusive and supportive of every brain and every body. 🧠🫶🏼 We are so proud of our students for learning, growing, and celebrating what makes each of us unique!

📚✨ Library Fun at Chapman Elementary! ✨📚 During each class’s library time, our students took on a fun and engaging challenge—playing a genre matching game! Students explored different types of books while working to match titles with their correct genres. From mystery and fantasy to nonfiction and biography, everyone had a chance to think critically, collaborate with classmates, and discover new reading interests along the way. It was wonderful to see so much excitement for reading and learning in the library!

Students created their own compass roses to better understand how directions are organized. Through this activity, they learned to identify both cardinal directions (north, south, east, west) and intermediate directions (northeast, northwest, southeast, southwest) in a hands-on and engaging way.

As part of our Green School initiative, Chapman Elementary partnered with the Detroit Zoo to conduct a waste audit. As one of our first steps toward building a more environmentally conscious school community, we have introduced a food share cart. Students can place unopened, packaged food items they do not wish to keep on the cart, allowing other students the opportunity to take and enjoy them instead.

The Chapman Chargers Mini Martian Marathon Team completed their marathon experience by running 1.2 miles this Saturday. These runners have been running two days a week in the mornings since January. 53 athletes competed in the race which included uphill and downhill running, a trail and a race to the finish line. Mrs. Kozicki is so very proud of all the runners and is very appreciative of the siblings (and former Run Club members) who ran with us, the family members that cheered us on and also some that ran with us, and Mrs. Johnson, Mrs. Ford, and Mrs. Monticello who supported all of our runners. Chapman has been participating in this amazing opportunity since 2013! Way to go Chargers!!
