Welcome to Parsons Elementary! My name is Sarah Aherne and I am absolutely thrilled to serve as the principal of such a special place. I am a proud graduate of the University of Michigan, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with minors in Early Childhood, Science, and English Language Arts. I have a Masters in Social Foundations and a Post Master’s Certificate in K-12 Administration from Eastern Michigan University.

I spent my first 10 years in Wayne Westland as a Media Information Teacher, 2-4 grade teacher, and Intervention Specialist. I then had the privilege of serving as the Assistant Principal and Principal of Cooper Upper Elementary in Livonia Public Schools, a Leader in Me School, for four years. After having my 4th child, I returned to teaching at my children’s school, Carpenter Elementary in Ann Arbor Public Schools for seven years. I served as the Title I Teacher, First, Second, and Fourth Grade Teacher, Curriculum Instructional Specialist and Teacher Leader Network Facilitator for English Language Arts..

Away from work, I love to spend time with my family. My husband and I have four children; three girls and a boy.  We spend most of our time taxiing our children from theater to XC to basketball practice! We love spending time outdoors, running, and reading. 

I’ve been so lucky to work in almost every role in education, with wonderful students and educators, and amazing districts. I am positively pro-kid and strive to create classrooms where students flourish into life-long learners. I believe strongly that collaboration is the key to strong, joyful schools. I love being part of the Marauder team! I know that whether you are a returning Pirate or the newest Pirate on our team, that you will enjoy your time at Parsons and your child will learn and grow.
