National Geographic Geography Bee

We are pleased to announce that Shumate Middle School will once again be participating in the National Geographic Society's Geography Bee.  Each year, thousands of schools, from all 50 states participate to crown one student National Champion. There are three levels of, state and national.  Next week, all students will participate in the preliminary competition to determine which students will advance to the final competition of the school bee.  The 10 highest scores on the preliminary assessment will advance to the final competition.

The final competition will be held during the week of Jan 30-Feb 3, with one student emerging as the school champion. The school champion will receive a medal and certificate of achievement from National Geographic as well as the opportunity to take the online state qualifying exam on February 6th.  We are very excited to bring this amazing competition to Shumate for the 2nd straight year.

To help your child prepare, please go to or download the Geo Bee Challenge App and study on the go at  Stay tuned for more information.  Please direct questions to your child's social studies teacher or Mr. Dunwoody or 734-379-7650.
