Welcome to Shumate Middle School
Important Budget Update - Feb 26, 2010
This is a financially difficult time for schools in the State of Michigan, and Gibraltar is feeling the economic crunch like everyone else. Click here to read an important letter from the Superintendent, Bruce Burger, on the state of the budget process for Gibraltar Schools.
Reminder, our Calendar provides the families of Shumate Middle School with all scheduled events throughout the year. Simply click on our Calendar icon and you will find the location to away events, which will also provide you directions.
After-School Tutoring Program (ASTP)
Check our calendar for the scheduled dates for ASTP, we offer the opportunity nearly all Tuesday and Thursdays. Transportation is provided (bus serves students living North of Gibraltar Road and the other bus serves students living South of Gibraltar Road). Snacks are available for a nominal fee.
If you have any questions regarding ASTP, please contact one of the following program supervisors, Mr. Jablonski at jablonm@gibdist.net or Ms. Previti at previtn@gibdist.net
Saturday School Program
Again, check our calendar for scheduled dates, as Saturday School has limited dates. Advisory teachers work with the classroom teachers regarding students exhibiting at-risk behavior. A list of students is developed periodically by administration, program supervisor and teacher input. The Advisory teacher then contacts home to receive commitment from the student’s parent. Once the list is established, classroom teachers provide missing or make-up work for the Saturday School supervisor.
Students attending Saturday School must be in the building before 8:30am. Doors open at 8:15am and are locked at 8:30am. Students meet in the Media Center and are dismissed at 12pm. Parents are encouraged to arrive shortly before noon so not to keep our staff waiting for your child’s transportation.
If you have any questions regarding Saturday School Program, please contact the program supervisor, Ms. Morsello at morseln@gibdist.net
Study Island
Shumate students have access to a web-based tutorial for mathematics and language arts. This tool may be accessed 24 hours a day, seven (7) days a week from any computer with internet access. Students may practice their skills on Grade Level Content Expectations (GLCEs) for grades 2-8. All students have received their username and password, as they received training back in September.
This is an exceptional tool with different session types to help improve your child’s knowledge on particular GLCEs. Simply go to www.studyisland.com, student enters username and password and the mastery begins.
