Physical Education Courses
9th Grade Boys P.E.
During this year-long course, students will be exposed to 3 basic areas including Team Sports, Physical Fitness and Health.
Basic Units of Study: Team Sports- football, soccer, volleyball, hockey, basketball, ping pong, tennis, and softball are the main areas of study in Team sports. Physical Fitness- students will run a 12-week course developed by the National School Fitness Foundation. Health- students will be taught the board approved 5 core areas of the Michigan Model Health program, including conflict resolution, alcohol, tobacco, drugs, and HIV/AIDS.
9th Grade Girls P.E.
A year-long class that will focus on health, fitness, and team sports. Each student will be involved in a 12-week fitness program from the National School Fitness Foundation that will assess the level of fitness of each child. This will aid in development of lifelong fitness habits.
Basic Unit of Study: Health units: tobacco, alcohol, drugs, HIV, violence prevention. Team Sports: football, basketball, volleyball, tennis, table tennis, ect.
Advanced Boys P.E.
Advanced Boys P.E is a year-long elective class that allows students the opportunity to participate in various activities that continue the 9 th grade curriculum.
Basic Unit of Study: Each semester students will cover several team and individual sports. These include football, soccer, volleyball, basketball, ping pong, tennis, softball, physical fitness, and other activities on a need basis.
Girls Fitness
Girls Fitness is a class designed for students that want to increase their level of fitness. During the year, the class is involved in a variety of activities including: Aerobic dance, circuit training, fitness room, jogging, and weight training. This class is limited to 24 students.
Basic Units of Study: Students will learn the five components of physical fitness: strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, cardiovascular fitness, and body composition.
Conditioning
This class is designed for a student who is serious about maintaining an above average level of physical fitness. Students are also involved in weight training and cardiovascular activities. This class is limited to 24 students.
Basic Units of Study: Students will learn from the five components of physical fitness: strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, cardiovascular fitness, and body composition.
